Droppings from the Nest, August 21st-24th
When the guys are out of town it gives me a chance to explore Boise a little more. However, as you can tell, that keeps me from keeping up with the droppings. So let’s just dive in:
- The Idaho Statesman recaps Thursday’s, Friday’s and Saturday’s games against Yakima and then Sunday’s start of the Spokane series.
- The Idaho-Pres Tribune does the same, highlighting Thursday’s and Saturday’s wins over Yakima, their extra-inning loss on Friday and Sunday’s win in Spokane.
- InsidetheIvy.com has a feature story on Hawks catcher Richard Jones (you have to have a subscription to the site, but it’s worth it, trust me).
- Matt Swain over at WrigleyBound has a Q&A with Justin Bour.
Additionally, Hawks pitcher Su-Min Jung returned to Korea today for his freshman year of college. As a result, the Chicago Cubs removed Jung from the Hawks roster and placed him on their restricted list. The restricted list just means that the team still has contractual obligations to Jung, he just can’t play at the moment.
With Boise, Jung logged a 4.38 ERA in 24.2 innings. He started
seven games for the Hawks with a 0-0 record, allowing 23 hits, 14 runs,
11 walks and striking out 17.
RHP Eduardo Figueroa will take Jung’s place in the rotation
on Tuesday against the Spokane Indians. Currently, there is no
replacement for the roster.
Droppings from the Nest, August 20th
Even with a pitchers duel between Hawks Robert Hernandez and Spokane’s Braden Tullis, the Hawks pulled out the win 1-0 thanks to an RBI single by Logan Watkins.
And on an interesting note, all three pitchers for the Hawks last night (Hernandez, Eduardo Figueroa and Dionis Nunez) happen to live with the same host family. I’m sure they went home and had a big celebration.
But now the guys hit the road for a week and a half, making visits to Yakima, Spokane and Tri City. It will be a nice break for us in the front office, and I have some pretty exciting plans in the works. Tonight I head to the Caldwell Night Rodeo, Saturday I’m planning on floating the Boise river for the second time this summer and then going salsa dancing. I’m also hoping to fit in another camping trip while the guys are gone. Oh, and lots and lots of sleep!
But before I get carried away thinking about my upcoming plans, let’s get to those droppings:
- Jordan Rodriguez with the Idaho Statesman take a look at Greg Rohan’s battle with HBP this season who has been hit seven times this season; the Statesman also has a recap of last night’s game.
- The Idaho Press-Tribune looks at the Hawks’ series win over Spokane.
Droppings from the Nest, July 28th
Driving by the stadium on my way to work this morning, I noticed all of the guys piling off the bus. I can only imagine that bus ride–brutal. But, they have the day off and I am sure while some will be catching up on the sleep they didn’t get on the bus last night, others will be out enjoying Boise.
Now, to the (limited) droppings:
- The Idaho Statesman recaps last night’s 10-2 loss in Eugene.
- The Idaho Press-Tribune also recaps last night’s game
Bromance extras: You can check out my article on the Hak-Ju Lee-Logan Watkins “bromance” on www.boisehawks.com, but also be sure to look at the photo album of all Boise Hawks “bromances”. And as an extra little tidbit, here is my interview with Hak-Ju Lee about his “bromance” with Logan Watkins (with Watkins serving as the translator); it’s pretty raw, but funny nonetheless.

And to clarify, a “bromance” is a close, non-sexual relationship between two men–essentially, they are best friends.
Droppings from the Nest, July 25th-27th
While the team has been busy in Eugene, I’ve got some catching up to do…
- The Idaho Statesman has recaps of Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s games plus a brief on newest Hawk Chris Rusin.
- The Idaho Press-Tribune also looks at Friday’s loss, Saturday’s and Sunday’s win and the addition of LHP Chris Rusin; however they also take a look at the American Legion tournament that took place at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
- KTVB has recaps of Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s games, noting that with Sunday’s win, the Hawks clinch their first road series this season.
Later today, look for new stories at www.boisehawks.com on Hawks’ “bromance” and the making of our special behind the scenes video produced by Oh! Show Productions
Droppings from the Nest, June 23rd
Well, we lost another one last night. Seems like our bullpen just can’t bring it together. We were fine through the 6th, then Tri-City tied it up in the 7th…and the rest is a painful deja vu of the previous two nights.
But now the boys are in Salem to take on the Volcanoes. New series.
New team. Fresh slate.
Here are some pictures Safford took on the bus
ride out to Salem. Be sure to check out his blog On the Mike with Mike Safford for game updates and commentary on life on the road.

Now…on to the droppings!!
- Will Love of the Idaho Press-Tribune takes a look at the recurring theme seen at the past three Hawks games–plus a few quick questions with infielder Greg Rohan.
- Chris Langrill of the Idaho Statesman looks at the sweep by Tri City.
- Channel 2 has a recap and highlights of last night’s game.
- Channel 7 has video of last week’s host family dinner as well as a recap of last night’s action.
