Droppings from the Nest, July 1st
It’s hard to believe that we now have two full homestands under our belts and that the 4th is right around the corner! The guys left early this morning for Tri-City for a three-day road trip and will be back in time for our big 4th of July celebration. But enough about scheduling, on to the droppings!
- The Idaho Press-Tribune knows the Hawks’ bats weren’t the problem in last night’s loss, but instead the pitchers’ inability to control Yakima’s bats kept them from the sweep.
- The Idaho Statesman also looks at Hawk’s near-sweep of the Yakima Bears, but Chris Langrill also chatted with new Hawk Joe Simokaitis, yet another converted pitcher.
- Per usual, Channel 2 has a game recap and highlights.
- Zach Wolken with Channel 7 has the details on last night’s game.
- Not necessarily team-related, but Fox 12 does have video from yesterday’s American Legion All-Star game held at Memorial Stadium. Check it out.

Droppings from the Nest, June 26th
Hawks win! Hawks win! Hawks win!
The Hawks came back with a rally in the final two innings to push past Salem-Keizer, 5-4.
Greg Rohan recorded the Hawks first homer of the season; Hak-Ju Lee extended his hitting streak to six games; and Logan Watkins, who has hit safely in five of his six games, had a season-high three RBI.
So much for the Black Widow curse…maybe I just had to get it out in the open in order for the baseball gods to relieve me of my burden.
Let’s hope so.
- Of course, the big news today is the Hawks’ first win of the season, and the Idaho Statesman has a game recap of last night’s victory.
- Channel 2 also highlights the Hawks’ win, but also does a video feature on Manager Casey Koptitzke’s arrival to the Treasure Valley.
- Channel 7 also covers Kopitzke’s return to the team.

I apologize; I have some catching up to do. Yesterday was my day off, and I would have never guessed I would sleep half the day away! By the time I thought about collecting the droppings it was late afternoon and I just decided to do a combo collection today.
Note: Whew! After this opening homestand, I think I value sleep more than I ever did in college!
- What would I do without Google Alerts?! Seriously, without it, I wouldn’t have come across this great blog entry at Riches of My Soul talking about the Hawks game. So touching! This reminds me why we do things like Economy Night here at the Hawks!

Droppings from the Nest, June 23rd
Well, we lost another one last night. Seems like our bullpen just can’t bring it together. We were fine through the 6th, then Tri-City tied it up in the 7th…and the rest is a painful deja vu of the previous two nights.
But now the boys are in Salem to take on the Volcanoes. New series.
New team. Fresh slate.
Here are some pictures Safford took on the bus
ride out to Salem. Be sure to check out his blog On the Mike with Mike Safford for game updates and commentary on life on the road.
